Welcome to the website of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific!
This Regional Centre, whose acronym is "UNRCPD", was created by United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/42/39D in 1987 and became operational in 1989. Since its inception, the Centre has promoted dialogue and confidence-building in disarmament and regional security related matters.

The Tenth United Nations-Republic of Korea Joint Conference addressed past decade's achievements, setbacks and challenges on Disarmament and Non-proliferation

The Tenth United Nations-Republic of Korea Joint Conference on Disarmament and Non-proliferation Issues took place in Jeju, Republic of Korea, on 7 and 8 November 2011. This annual event was organized jointly by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs through its Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific and the Government of the Republic of Korea. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sent a video message to the Conference. Mr. Sergio Duarte, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations and senior officials from the Republic of Korea addressed the opening session. Over 50 representatives from governments, international organizations, academic and research institutions, and civil society participated in the Conference. |

Nepal Home Ministry Approves Small Arms Control Work Plan

The Ministry of Home (MoH) of the Government of Nepal has approved a work plan on small arms control. As per the work plan, the production, transportation and sales and distribution of the small arms will be banned. The MoH added that all small arms will be brought under the government control and the crimes triggered with small arms curbed. |

Poetry for Peace contest event - video now available

For four weeks, a social media Poetry for Peace contest invited the world to hear the living testimonies of atomic bomb survivors, called HIBAKUSHA, and respond to their stories in verse. Three winnners were announced on 25 October at a ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. |
